Project Description

The Southwest METRO Green Line Extension project (commonly called Southwest Light Rail or SWLRT) includes a 14. 5 mile light rail transit corridor comprising 16 stations, 29 new bridges, 2 tunnels, 5 miles of freight rail relocation, and 14.5 miles of twin track LRT in Hennepin County, Minnesota.

The line will connect major activity centers in the region including downtown Minneapolis, Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, downtown Hopkins and the Opus/Golden Triangle employment area in Minnetonka and Eden Prairie as well as the METRO Blue Line and Extension, METRO Orange Line and Northstar commuter rail line. At Target Field Station in Minneapolis, Green Line Extension trains will continue along the Green Line, providing one-seat rides to the University of Minnesota, state Capitol area and downtown St. Paul.

The 14.5-mile extension of the Metro Green Line is the largest public works project in Minnesota History.
