Project Description

This project was a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week project to reinstate the Falls City Sub Br 465.91 that had lost 3 spans in the middle of the Platte River due to flooding. The project consisted of the installation of 3 cofferdams, 5’ diameter drilled shafts 60,’ in length with an additional 23’ rock socket, 212,000 lbs of reinforcement bars, 340 CY of cast-in-place footings and piers, removal of cofferdams, installation of three 69’ TPG spans and one 33’-6” TPG span and assisting in setting track panels.

Work was completed from a 100,000 ton shot rock and rip rap causeway and temporary access road (installed by others).

The bridge construction began on April 13th after the temporary causeway was completed. Bridge construction was completed and turned back over to UPRR on May 14th, ahead of the anticipated completion date by 3 days.

NOTABLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Causeway access, limited storage space, and linear operations required detailed planning and coordination of material, equipment and personnel resources to maintain schedule.
  • Drilled shafts concrete placement requirement in shale.
