The new dam will offer better control of water levels to help promote vegetation growth that will benefit numerous species of wildlife.
The Sheboygan Marsh is a jewel of ecological biodiversity, supporting numerous plant and bird species. The 14,000-acre emergent wetland is part of the Sheboygan River Watershed, and includes the largest managed wetlands complex in Wisconsin’s Lake Superior and Lake Michigan watersheds.
Longstanding problems with water level spikes have threatened the marsh’s biodiversity and infrastructure. The Sheboygan Marsh Dam project seeks to remedy the problem.
