As part of a multi-phase ship yard renovation, Lunda was contracted by Fincantieri Marinette Marine to construct the infrastructure to support a state of the art vertical ship lift, which allows the shipyard to launch larger vessels for the US Navy. Lunda’s work included the construction of two 500’ x 50’ wide concrete pier structures and a new motor control building. The piers are supported on rock socketed drilled shafts. 

Drilled shafts were installed using vertical drill rigs supported on barges. Due to the strict tolerances for shaft alignment, Lunda Construction developed a floating template system that consisted of adjustable pontoons that were pinned in place to a primary header spudded to the underlying bedrock.
