ROLE

BNSF Railway
LOCATION
La Crosse, WI

With only a single track at this location, BNSF experienced bottlenecks needed to expand their capacity. The project included both design and construction responsibilities to build approximately two miles of track through the La Crosse River Marsh.
The scope of work included construction of five miles of new second main line track through an environmentally sensitive corridor. Work included embankment fills, ground stabilization for marsh fills, drainage structures, four new bridges and civil modifications at three public grade crossings. The ground stabilization system was a contractor design-build element.
NOTABLE REQUIREMENTS:
- Ground stabilization design build component successfully completed by Lunda
- Construction along a sensitive environmental corridor
- Accelerated project schedule due to environment permitting restrictions.
