This major urban interstate corridor upgrade provided a series of updates to improve safety, increase access, and reduce congestion on a more than 50-year-old freeway system.

The project required reconstruction of 11 bridges, and repairs to four additional bridge structures in several areas along the corridor; rehabilitating pavement, as well as constructing new, and rehabilitating existing, noise barriers.

Upgrades included a new bus rapid transit station along with improved bicycle and pedestrian access. Improvement of accessibility and pedestrian accommodations included wider pedestrian bridges and upgrades of curb ramps and sidewalks.
