In February of 1996, Lunda Construction Company was awarded this project by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Lunda was able to procure equipment, materials and subcontractors to mobilize onto the project within 20 days of the bid date and begin critical, bridge removal work.
The project consists of a four span post-tensioned segmental cast-in-place box girder structure with an overall width of 104 feet and overall length of 1,253 feet. The structure is supported by three cast-in-place concrete piers on 12" and 14" H-Piling built within deep cofferdams. In addition to the structure, the project included the construction of elaborate pedestrian plazas at each end of the bridge and also on a historic island underneath the bridge.
